Judging Process

Entries were shortlisted by the competition committee and were made public on 31 July.

The judging panel will be present in Newcastle for the grand final concert. Winners of the various sections of the competition will be announced at the second finals concert on 2 December 2, 2012.
The decisions of the judging panel (and for the people’s choice winner) are final and not subject to appeal.
 

Judging Criteria

 

Entries will be judged on the following criteria.

Historical Category: Sections A, B, & C

 

  • Technical competency
  • Musicianship
  • Understanding of style
  • Interpretation
  • Understanding of the concerto’s formal design
  • Accuracy
  • Stage presence

Innovative Category: Sections D, E
 

  • Technical competency
  • Musicianship
  • Understanding of style or genre
  • Originality
  • Understanding of the concerto’s formal design
  • Accuracy
  •  Stage presence

Networked Music Performance: Section F
 

  • Technical competency
  • Originality
  • Conception
  • Musicianship
  • Use of internet (for example: applications and awareness of latency)
  • Level of interaction via the internet
